Australian government wants Counter Strike registered as a gambling game

In what could prove a world first, an Australian politician is seeking to have games such as the hugely popular Counter-Strike series defined in law as gambling.

Nick Xenophon, the independent senator for South Australia, on Sunday announced a bid to have multiplayer first-person shooter games defined as gambling in an update to the current Interactive Gambling Act of 2001.

“This is the Wild West of online gambling that is actually targeting kids,” Xenophon told Fairfax Media.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has become one of the world’s most successful first-person shooter games since introducing its “arm deal” update in August 2013, which allowed virtual weapons known as “skins” obtained in the game to be turned into real-world money.

To be fair, it is happening and this guy has a point. But Valve is trying to stop it, but who knows how hard they are actually trying.

Forza Horizons 3 to be Aussie as all fuck

From this list, here are the Aussie cars.

  • 2015 Ford Falcon XR8
  • 1973 Ford XB Falcon GT – My most favorite car ever!

Has the entire world gone nuts for Pokemon Go?

All my friends are playing it. Husbands, wives and kids. I just drove to the airport to pick up some family and spotted at least half a dozen groups of people walking around the streets with their mobiles out. There are groups being organised to walk around Sydney to find Pokemons and if you have been on Imgur or Reddit, the place is going nuts. This could be a thing! I think we are witnessing a historical gaming thing here. As soon as I work out what a Pokemon is, I’ll give it a whack too.

I fucking love it! I’ve never been interested in Pokemon before but I have never seen a community reaction like this.

A game that gets you out of the house, walking around and interacting with people. It’s bloody brilliant. Apparently Nintendo’s stock is sky rocketing because of the popularity.

(Update) I just ducked out for a poop and downloaded it while I delivered a log. I found a “Squirtle” in my bathroom. Dirty fucker. Lurking in my shitter. Are all Pokemons freaky like that? I mean, I don’t mind it watching.

Australia bans another game despite having an R18+ classification

The game is called MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death. It’s a dungeon crawling RPG. It’s sort of amazing it’s even coming to Australia in the first place.

But here’s the strange part: MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death received a ‘teen’ rating in the US (13 years and up) and ‘B’ in Japan (12 years and above) but in Australia it has been refused classification.

The Classification Board has described MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death as a game that deals with “matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults.”

Never heard of this game till now. Now I must download and play it.

First look at new project from Hideo Kojima

I have been a fan of Hideo Kojima since I played the very first Metal Gear game on NES way back in the late 80’s.  It was rare to play a game where stealth was the way to go (as opposed to shoot and ask questions later) about things and this turned out to be an absolute game (pun intended) changer.

This is the first official image that has been released to the public.  We don’t have many details on what the project in question entails but judging from the image, it looks like HK is going all futuristic and space age.  This is something I’m very excited about.

Keep your eyes on for more updates as we get them.

Bethesda decide Aussies need to pay more for DOOM

You know how the price of DOOM for Australians was way too expensive, thanks to our glorious exchange rate and Steam’s refusal to actually sell products in Australian dollars?

Well it quietly went down yesterday, from US$79.95 to US$59.99. Pity that didn’t last.

DOOM’s US$79.95 price point was a point of contention for many Australians. Irate users posted threads on the official forums and even left sour reviews on DOOM’s Steam page to indicate their disgust at the presence of the Australia tax.

So now if you buy it on Steam it will cost you close to $110. You can buy it in store at places like JB for $90 or grab it for free at your local torrent store.

Have I expressed how much I love this game? No? Well I do. But it sucks that there is not many people playing it. I would love to create a server and multiplay with you lot. But I wonder, how many space engineers are out there?

Let me know. If we can get at least eight people in I will get a server rented and we can play! Post in the comments.

Gears of War 4 beta - First Impressions

After 1.5 hours and 5 levels into the beta I’m happy to say that it’s on the right track.  There are definitely a few consistent bugs and glitches (it IS a beta) but it has not dampened my enjoyment in the slightest.  I will continue to update this post with my thoughts but here are a few to get started ;

  • It combines the controls from Gears 3 with the fluidity of Judgement but thank fuck, it’s not judgement
  • New CQC moves are awesome and add a totally new element to the game (e.g : you can pull someone over the barricade in order to set them up for a takedown with a knife)
  • Don’t have much to say on the new weapons yet as I used the dropshot once and I killed myself
  • New game mode (dodgeball) is a lot of fun (only respawn when someone on the enemy is killed) and can see this being a go to mode for me

I’m going to add in more details once I progress further into the beta and will also post some gameplay footage!

Gears of War 4 is coming out on October 11 for Xbox One and the open beta begins on April 25 and runs through to May 1.
